- ½ cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 cube beef bouillon, crumbled
- About 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Onion Gravy:
- 1 whole onion, halved and thinly sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- About 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon beef broth (for the slurry)
- Salt & pepper to taste
How to Make Salisbury Steak Step by Step 🥄
1. Make the Beef Patties
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, seasoned breadcrumbs, ketchup, crumbled bouillon cube, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined. Shape into 4–6 oval, steak-shaped patties.
2. Brown the Patties
Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties until browned on both sides (they don’t need to be cooked through yet). Remove and set aside.
3. Cook the Onions for Gravy
In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Add sliced onions and cook until golden and softened.
4. Build the Gravy
Pour in beef broth, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well. Make a slurry with cornstarch and 3 tablespoon beef broth, then whisk into the skillet. Cook until slightly thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Simmer the Salisbury Steaks
Return patties to the skillet, spoon onion gravy over the top, cover, and let simmer for a few minutes until cooked through and heated.
