What to pack in your Hospital Bag

Oh, the hospital bag. This is my second time to pack my bags for a baby hospital stay. The first time I did absolutely no planning. I packed like I would a weekend trip… and let’s just say I’m thankful there were people to run to the store for me.

Because I’m having my baby during the Covid-19 crisis, I’ve had to plan extra carefully since only my husband can be in the hospital with me.

I’ve broken my list into category by person (me, baby, dad) and by what I can pack in advance and what I need to pack right before leaving the house (am I the only one who want to have their own toothbrush and hairbrush when away from home?)

Hospital Bag Checklist Kayla Brint

Put in the bag right before leaving

    • deodorant
    • pillow
    • toothbrush
    • toothpaste
    • make-up
    • hairbrush
    • hairdryer/ curling iron (if you are having photos made)
    • glasses/contacts (if worn)


Fill your Diaper Bag with the following items. I love my Freshly Picked Classic Diaper Bag in Butterscotch.

    • 2-3 onesies and 2-3 cute outfits for photos and going home
    • Swaddling blanket

    • Ollie World Wrap
    • Baby Mittens
    • Hats
    • Burp Cloths
    • Car Seat and Base (installed)
    • Car Seat Cover

The hospital will provide diapers and wipes but I went ahead and added some so that it would be ready for our first outing. 


    • Shirts
    • Pants/Shorts
    • Extra-long Phone Charger cord and USB box plugin
    • Sweater or Hoodie
    • Socks
    • Toiletries if not allowed to leave hospital due to Covid-19 and not using moms
    • A place for him to sleep. We are bringing a reclining lawn chair. Some people have even brought a blowup mattress.


Some of these items can be packed in advance while others you’ll need to pack right before leaving.
