Getting a Roomba changed everything for me. And here’s the things, I’m not talking about how it keeps the floors vacuumed, I am talking about my daily routine. Stay with me here.

I have a routine that I do every single day.

I will not leave our house unless the cleaning routine is complete because I’ve learned that coming into a clean house at the end of the day makes me feel like a million bucks. On the other hand, if I have not done it, I feel completely overwhelmed.

So, our house stays looking exactly the same all the time. And here’s the kicker, it’s easy to do. The hardest part is getting it clean the first time. After that, maintaining it is easy. It takes me 15 minutes in the morning to do it (mainly because making the beds takes me a little extra time.) And only 5-10 minutes in the evening. That’s it.

At the time I am writing this, I know that my house is completely picked-up for when I come home. There is nothing I am going to step on when I walk through the door. The counter is not cluttered if I were to unload groceries and need a place to set them. Our home is ready for a relaxing evening. I know that might sound silly to some, but to me it is a huge deal. Massive.

I’m not going to lie, my house used to be pretty, well, cluttered. Just things all over the floors and out of place. Clothes on the bathroom floor. Toys everywhere. It was just a mess. Then my husband got me a Roomba for my birthday last November.

The beauty of a Roomba is that it will work when you are not home. You don’t have to hear it. You don’t have to babysit it. It does all the work for you. However, in order for a Roomba to work, the floors have to be free from clutter. It will suck up anything in its path. If you are not there to take the underwear out of it that you left on the floor, it will stop and your floors will not be cleaned… which defeats the whole stinking purpose.  I can’t tell you how many times Roomba sucked up a toy or a shirt and I come home to find it in the middle of the floor not even half way done with the house. UGH! I just wanted clean floors.

So, I established a routine. I told myself that I wasn’t going to leave the house unless the bulleted list above was completed so that I could turn Roomba on and confidently know that it was going to clean all our floors by the time I got home. Having vacuumed floors that I didn’t have to do really got my rear into gear. Y’all, I have a 2 year old and vacuuming was happening several times a day. I was sick of it. Roomba was a God-sent! But I had to do my part first.

I look forward to coming home to not only vacuumed floors but also a clean house. Game-changer!

The best advice I can give you, is to set a morning routine and stick to it. Start small. Maybe just make the beds first. After a couple weeks of doing that, start making the beds and picking up the floors.

Here’s exactly what I do:

I pick up our home twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening after Worth is in bed. That’s it.

When I say pick up, I mean the following:

  • nothing on the floors that should not be (clothes, shoes, toys, cups, trash, etc.)
  • beds made (in the morning)
  • nothing in the sink
  • counters completely cleaned off

That’s it. It’s really that simple. Try it this week, and let me know if it helps you!
